Ana Belaval Biography
Ana Maria Belaval is an American journalist, reporter and presenter with WGN Broadcasting. Apart from being a journalist, Belaval is also a stand-up Comedian. Ana’s career as a journalist started at Univision. She was a Spanish speaking general assignment reporter and weekend anchor for the Chicago affiliate. She worked her way up to network correspondent based in New York and substitute host for Univision’s national morning show, “Despierta America”.
She later joined WGN in 2005 after leaving Univision. She became one of few Spanish-speaking reporters to cross over to the English broadcast market. Since then, Belaval has worked as a substitute anchor for the Morning and Midday News, as a reporter on the Morning News’ ‘About Town’ feature, and as a general assignment reporter. Belaval has been nominated six times for the Emmy award and managed to take home three Emmy award like the “Living Green” and “One Tank Trips” series, as well as for the community affairs show “Adelante Chicago”. She was also a finalist for the Peter Lisagor award for the special story on anabelaval.com.
Apart from being a reporter for the Morning News, Belaval can also be seen onstage doing stand-up comedy. She performed stand-up for the first time for a Chicago celebrity event at Zanie’s and received so many laughs.
Since then she continued to write and perform comedy sets at various venues in Chicago with her WGN colleagues Mike Toomey and Pat Tomasulo, as well as with The Mikey O Comedy Show. Belaval is currently working as the host of Chicago Stand Up Project on WTTW – a documentary-style show featuring two well-known Chicagoans who try their hand at stand-up comedy. She was recently invited to be a guest host for ABC’s “The View” which aired on 15th of July 2014.

Anna Beleval was born and raised in Puerto Rico to her Puerto Rican parents. There is no much information about her family and her siblings if she has any. She joined American University in Washington D.C where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism.
