Doug E Fresh (Real Name- Douglas Davis) is a Barbadian-American rapper, record producer and beatboxer who was born on September 17, 1966, Barbados. He is also the Human Beat Box. Doug E Fresh is considered as the pioneer of 20th-century American beatboxing. He possesses the ability to accurately mimic drum machines and various special effects by using only his mouth, lips, gums, throat, tongue and a microphone

Doug E Fresh is the manager of two of his six sons who use the name Square Off. The two, Dayquan Davis (Slim) and Solomon Davis (Trips), are a hip-hop group who released their debut CD entitled Money, Moet & Memories in June 2011.

Doug E Fresh started his career recording as a solo artist. He signed with Enjoy Records as one of the last artists and one of the first on Vintertainment Records. Among notable artists from Vintertainment Records were hip-hop artist Joeski Love and R&B singer Keith Sweat. The label was New York-based and owned by Vincent Davis.

Fresh and a new team of DJs known as the Get Fresh Crew recorded The Show and also La Di Da Di. The latter was completely voiced by MC Ricky D and backed by Doug E. Fresh’s beatboxing for the entire duration of the song. The two songs were released as a 12″ and launched Doug E Fresh and Slick Rick into stardom. The two songs are considered among the greatest early hip-hop classics. The Show peaked at #7 on the UK Singles Chart in December 1985.

Slick Rick left the group a year after they had released the The Show/La Di Da Di single. He reappeared as a Def Jam artist in 1988 and released his debut album, The Great Adventures of Slick Rick.

Doug E Fresh was interviewed for the Big Fun In The Big Town, a 1986 cult documentary. Fresh and the Get Fresh Crew continued on after the exit of Slick Rick . They released Oh, My God! in 1986 while signed to Danya/Reality/Fantasy. Oh, My God!, included the hit song All The Way To Heaven. Get Fresh released The World’s Greatest Entertainer featuring the song Keep Risin’ To The Top in 1988.

In 1992, Fresh joined MC Hammer’s label Bust It Records and issued the album Doin’ What I Gotta Do after a four-year hibernation. However, the album was a commercial failure despite some marginal acclaim for the single Bustin’ Out. Doug E. Fresh signed with Island Records-affiliated label Gee Street even though he only released one single containing three songs.

Doug E Fresh performed at the Paradise Theater on October 28, 2011, a concert to benefit New York City’s public hospitals. Fresh served as a celebrity judge on the Apollo Live TV show on July 9, 2012. He hosted a classic hip-hop and R&B show called Show The on New York’s 107.5 WBLS beginning May 25, 2013, which aired 9:00-11:00 p.m. Saturday nights until the final broadcast on December 31, 2016. On the show I Can Do That on June 30, 2015, Fresh served as a guest mentor to Jeff Dye and Joe Jonas, and performed with them.

A storefront for Doug E.’s Chicken and Waffles appeared at the corner of 132nd Street and Adam Clayton Powell Boulevard in Harlem in April 2007. The eatery finally opened its doors in November 2010 after completion of the works that took over three years to complete. The storefront remains in place even though the eatery has since closed permanently. Fresh has stated that he owns a club called Fresh.

Doug E Fresh merged two very important components of his life: hip-hop and health when he partnered with Dr. Olajide Williams, a neurologist from New York Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center to fight against childhood obesity. The partnership produced Hip Hop Public Health (HHPH) which is an organization committed to innovative public health solutions. Their aim is to end health illiteracy through music and foster positive health behavior changes.
