Paulie Malignaggi is an American former professional boxer. He competed from 2001-2017 and has since worked as a commentator and analyst. From 2007-08 he held IBF Junior welterweight title and WBA welterweight title from 2012-13. He was best known for his fast hand speed, athleticism, and durable chin.

Light welterweight

He turned pro in 2001 and won his first 21 fights.

Malignaggi vs. Cotto

He faced Miguel Cotto in his first world title WBO light welterweight title on June 10, 2006, in Madison Square Garden on TOP RANK PPV. He lost the fight by unanimous decision with scores of 116-111 and 115-112.

Malignaggi vs. Cherry, N’dou

On February 17, 2007, he got back on track with a unanimous decision victory over Edner Cherry at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City. He later faced Lovemore N’dou on June 16, 2007, and won the fight by a 12 unanimous decision to win the IBF Light Welterweight Championship at Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, Connecticut. At the end of 2007, he was awarded the Ring Magazine Comeback of the year.

Malignaggi vs. Ngoudjo, N’dou II

He defended his title on January 5, 2008, against Herman Ngoudjo in a highly competitive match held at Bally’s Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey. He won after the seventh round with a wide unanimous decision.

In a rematch with Lovemore N’Duo, he won the fight via split decision to retain his IBF title at the City of Manchester Stadium in Manchester, England on May 24, 2008.

Malignaggi vs. Hatton

He faced the ring and IBO Light Welterweight Champion Ricky Hatton in MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on November 22, 2008. Hatton dominated the fight.

Malignaggi vs. Khan

On May 15, 2010, he faced Amir Khan in Madison Square Garden in New York. He was very overmatched throughout the fight. This would be his last fight at Jr. welterweight, he had a very difficult time making weight for this fight and it showed in his performance. On September 28, 2010, it was announced that Malignaggi signed with Golden Boy Promotions.

He officially announced his retirement from boxing on March 6, 2017, at the age 36. He finished his career with 44 professional fights, winning 36, and 8 losses.

Bare Knuckle boxing

On March 7, 2019, news surfaced that he had signed an exclusive contract with Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship and is expected to make his debut in June 2019.

Their father returned back to Italy after a while leaving them under their mother’s care. His mother remarried and the two brothers often did not get along with their stepfather. The pair got into a fight with their stepfather in 1996. Following the fight with their stepfather, they left the house.

As a teen, he regularly got involved in street fights using knives and sometimes guns.  he also violated school rules. He later transitioned into boxing and took boxing classes.
